Christian Heritage Church is a group of believers in Christ, focused on heritage. The legacy we have been given, or the legacy we pass on, or both. The verse we guide our church by is found in Deuteronomy 6:5-7. It says,
“5 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 And you shall repeat them diligently to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.”
The goal of Christian Heritage is First, to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind. Then Second, to repeat these words to our spouses, children, and everywhere we go. We want to be a church about the family, that looks to our heritage and passes the torch effectively to the next generation.
Our story begins Christmas day, 1994. Becky Young had been meeting with several old friends, and building a network of people who she used to go to church with, that no longer were in church. They had started meeting on Wednesday nights to have bible study. Becky’s Father was a minister in Leesburg, Ohio, but he had been battling some health issues which forced Him to retire and move to Springfield to be closer to family. Becky had asked Him to lead their bible study a few times, and numbers began to grow. On this day, Pastor John led a group of 32 to an old barn. It was there that the name Christian Heritage was born. As we spent Christmas morning together, you could tell that something new was born. God had begun to work in the lives of those meeting to seek Him. From there, we rented Northwestern High School and a community building in Lawrenceville. We moved in and out of these buildings, and witnessed many victories for the Lord during these services.
The Years that would follow would include the church raising enough money to purchase land and eventually build a beautiful building to worship in on Victory Road. In 2001, tragedy struck our nation on September 11th, and the church had only a concrete slab and steel beams. We gathered together on the property and praised God together, and lifted our nation and its leaders in prayer. Our building was finished in December, 2001 and we had our Christmas service again, together.
Many victories have been won and many families made stronger through the work He has done through His church. Now our ministries are expanding and we give all the praise to God for what He continues to do in Christian Heritage.
